ROLES:

The Rising Project was a club formulated during COVID-19 in the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication to make climate change and climate justice more digestible and creatively spread awareness. As a member for four years and a director for the past two, I’ve helped shape the club into a creative studio that merges creativity with science communication. We’ve grown it from a small social media page to an organization known school-wide for its events, efforts, and inspiration.

THE RISING GAMES

EARTH DAY, 2024

The Rising Project organized the biggest event in our club’s history, The Rising Games, on Earth Day in April 2024. This event comprised of sustainable games and activities, like recycling basketball, potting plants, and DIY jorts. Each activity was aimed at climate education, including the blowup obstacle course, where students attempted to outrun the speed of a forest fire. Over 500 students attended and participated in the activities.

My colleague and I produced the entire event, worked with the university, organized external vendors, and came up with creative ideas for the activities with help from the team.

Rising: Saving the world with science communication

β€œOur goal is to make this information digestible and empower students to make climate-conscious decisions that inspire real change in the world,” said Lily Wong, an advertising major and one of the club’s three leaders.
