During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was a senior in high school sitting at home on my laptop, watching the world happen outside. As a woman of Asian American heritage, it was painful hearing about what was happening to people who looked like me, my dad, my grandma, and the rest of my Asian American family. The Guild Dance Academy reached out to me and other Asian American dancers to create a dance video in the heart of Seattle’s international district. I was the youngest dancer by 20 years. Not only was I able to meet other Asian American dancers in the community, but respond to the hatred and discrimination through art and dance in a way that meant something to me.
